Find Your Focus
Day 4: Your Values
Module 4: The Values that drive your Focus
Today is about your Values - that determine what priority you place on things, how much time, effort, money and resources you will commit to them.
If you haven't reviewed Days 1 to 3 yet, do that now.
Values Elicitation
Sit quietly somewhere you won’t be disturbed. Take a sheet of paper and answer this question for yourself: “What’s important to me in the context of my work and my life?”
Values tend to be single words, or 2-3 word phrases - don't judge anything that comes up, write it all down, we'll be dealing with it all either later in this session, or in Day 5.
When you think you’ve got all your values written down, when you can’t think of anything else, keep trying - for most people their core values are so instrinsic to them, so much a 'given' in their lives, that they don't come out until right at the end.
Ordering Values
OK, now put your Values into order – number them from 1 to whatever, on your sheet of paper, with “1” being the most important to you. There is no "right" order for Values - it's just that the importance you put on them can affect the results you get. And obviously, what you Focus on!
But it's important that you get your Values as they really are, not as you'd like them to be!
Now, relax and ponder what your Values mean to you
Until tomorrow!
